Don Vincenzo: A Minesweeper twist.

Porca miseria, I made this game and it’s about one of the most Italian experiences that exists: Going to a restaurant and trying to find a quiet table far from Italians yelling like they’re at a soccer stadium.

I called it Don Vincenzo. It’s like Minesweeper, but instead of mines there are loud Italians. And instead of dying from an explosion, you die from a headache. Much more Italian.

It works on both computer and phone, because I hate when you open a game and you have to zoom in like an idiot to see the buttons. Here everything adapts automatically, like when my nonna adapted recipes based on whatever she found in the fridge.

You can even change the background: trattoria tablecloth or classic.

The goal: Spot the noisy tables in Don Vincenzo’s restaurant.

How it works:

  1. Click on a grey square to discover what’s there:
    • If you see a number: it tells you how many noisy tables are around it (in the 8 surrounding squares);
    • If you see an empty space: you’re safe! The game automatically reveals nearby empty spaces;
    • If you click a noisy table (🤌): Game Over! Mamma mia!
  2. Mark suspicious tables
    • On computer: right-click to place/remove a suspicious table (Ear icon);
    • On mobile: press the “Ear” button to activate/deactivate it and then tap the square you want to mark;
  3. You win when you mark all the noisy tables.

I enjoyed the idea of turning the collective trauma of every Italian who goes out to eat into a game.

Now you can play it in my website’s Lounge while you wait for Alice to respond, or while you process the idea that you just paid 15 euros for a carbonara that your nonna would have made better.

Mamma mia what a genius.
